Although it was at first thought the spire was twisted owing to the lack of skilled craftsmen after the recent Black Death or Bubonic plague, it's now thought the twist is the result of the lead which covers the spire. Sun shining on the south side in the day causes that side to heat up and expand at a faster rate than the north side, leading to unbalanced expansion and contraction.
