High Resolution JPEG Picture of Quito, Pichincha, Ecuador: the Edificio La Licuadora (The Blender Building), formally the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism (Ministerio de Turismo), stands at the intersection of Avenida 10 de Agosto and Calle Briceño in the San Blas sector of Quito, Ecuador. Designed by architect Diego Ponce Bueno and inaugurated in 1973, this 15-story tower is a prominent example of Modernist architecture in the capital. The building features a distinctive truncated prism shape with canted glass curtain walls and octagonal concrete columns, originally built for the now-defunct Banco La Filantrópica (later Filanbanco). Its popular nickname, "La Licuadora," derives from its silhouette and the former rotating restaurant on the top floor. On the left, the old Casa Arteta, designed by the Ecuadorian architect J. Gualberto Pérez in a Neoclassical/Eclectic style, now also a government building, the Directorate of Mobilization of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (Edificio de la Dirección de Movilización del Comando Conjunto de las Fuerzas Armadas).
