Traditional troglodyte dwellings found
High Resolution JPEG Picture of Traditional troglodyte dwellings found in Matmata, a region in southern Tunisia. These unique underground homes are carved into the soft rock of the area and have been used for centuries by the local Berber population to escape the extreme heat of the desert. The white plaster around the doorways is also typical of this region, providing a striking contrast against the earthy tones of the rock.
